 There is no money, Nigeria is broke, Minister Ngige gives update on ASUU strike SAMBLOG  Jul 29 Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has provided the latest update on the ongoing strike action in the university system, insisting that negotiations were ongoing between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Ministry of Education. Ngige, however, warned that negotiating with ASUU without simultaneously doing so with the other university-based unions only delayed the strike as it would not achieve a quick resolution of the issues. He also declared that Nigeria is broke and may be unable to finance its capital projects come 2023 if it fails to reduce the cost of government and remove fuel subsidies, among other actions.  STRIKE: “BE PATIENT, TWO YEARS ISN’T TOO MUCH TO SACRIFICE”, SAYS ASUU PRESIDENT SAMBLOG  Jul 27 The Academic Staff Union Of Universities, ASUU has vowed to not back down from the ongoing industrial action until FG do the needful. ASUU National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke made the vow on Wednesday as the NLC Mega rally In Abuja kicks off. "We won't back down, we will fight to the end, two years is not too much to sacrifice for the coming generations", he said.  ASUU strike will be resolved within two weeks, FG reassured SAMBLOG  Jul 20 The Minister Of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has dismissed the media report insinuating that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered him on Tuesday to hand off negotiations with the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), describing it false. He made the clarification Wednesday while speaking with State House reporters. Ngige said “the truth of the matter is, there is no such thing. It’s just a categorical untruth. There is nothing like hands off.” On the whether the two weeks directive by the President to resolve the issue was realistic, the labour minister said he proposed one week to resolve the issue but the Minister of Education Adamu Adamu volunteered to resolve the issues with ASUU in two weeks. ASUU Strike: NANS begins mobilization, asks all students to join NLC solidarity protest SAMBLOG  Jul 20 The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students,NANS, has begun mobilisation of students ahead of the planned solidarity protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress,NLC,billed for  July 26  and 27,2022,over the ongoing strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.  To this end,the students’ body which declared support for the two-day solidarity action with ASUU,has asked all students across the country to prepare to join. NANS made this known in a statement issued by its president, Comrade Sunday Asefon, in Abuja on Wednesday.

 FG gives counter offer to ASUU next week to ending strike SAMBLOG  Jul 16 The Federal Government of Nigeria has explained why it rejected that the Professor Nimi Briggs Reports. Speaking through Arise TV, monitored by TEAM PLATO REPORTS. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige explained that the proposal submitted only caters for the needs of ASUU alone, leaving out other workers of the Universities which are NASU, SSANU, NAAT. Ngige emphasized that the reports only carries the burden of ASUU and Ministry of Finance, National Income, Wages and Employment and other parastatals concerned are excluded in the meetings. He posited that there will be counter offer that will be provided to ASUU next week, He said they have gotten the reports submitted, They will pass it to the President to sign and then pass it to ASUU, NASU, SSANU that this is what is available for them.  We’re committed to ending ASUU strike very soon, FG reassures SAMBLOG  Jul 10 The Minister of State for Education Goodluck Opiah has assured the Muhammadu Buhari administration is committed to ending the strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) soonest. The Minister gave the assurance in Owerri at the weekend while fielding questions from newsmen during a reception organized in his honour by his friends. “I can assure you that government is very concerned about the situation.  ASUU strike: Nationwide blackout looms as workers threaten to shut down power sector SAMBLOG  Jul 10 Workers in the power sector have threatened to shutdown electricity supply in the country should Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, declare a nationwide protest over the protracted industrial crises in the country’s educational sector. Under the aegis of the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, the workers argued that the carefree attitude of government towards the continued closure of schools is a sorry state in the process of Nigeria’s development towards nationhood.
